The role of a coach is to accompany and allow the person being coached to surpass themself and improve on their own. A sports coach will help athletes increase their performance; a life coach will help their client make their daily life healthier; and a dating coach will accompany their client in their quest for love. A business or leadership coach is no exception to the rule, and they are called upon by new leaders to support the leaders of today and tomorrow. 

As an entrepreneur, it’s normal to want to grow your business as much as you can and as quickly as possible. When an opportunity to scale the business presents itself, it may seem like the right move for your company. However, without proper guidance, you could end up scaling too fast and negatively impact your business.

If you want to get good at something, get a coach! Dr. Atul Gawande is one of my favorite authors. He wrote The Checklist Manifesto, which has been impactful in my life. In this video he discusses the importance of coaches. And, while he didn't think he needed a coach, he found it helped him improve his surgical skills and decrease his error rate.

 Coaching has become a key ingredient in professional success. The industry has grown tremendously, demonstrating the power and importance of having a coach. 

Many coaches have distinct professional backgrounds and prior experience in other fields, from sales and marketing to human resources and beyond. Gaining expertise in another industry or specialty first helps them guide others who are in similar boats toward success.

Many entrepreneurs will eventually face a common dilemma: whether to “stay the course” with their current business model and offerings or pursue innovation. In some cases, this means expanding services or their product line. In others, it means a full pivot in another direction.  Pursuing innovation is always risky, but sometimes the risk is worth it.
